Design: Carlos Chacon

Program: Temporary University Campus

Location: Settimo Torinese, Turin, Italy

The project involves taking five strategic areas of the city of Settimo Torinese, which are currently without buildings, and propose a University Campus as an extra urban core for the Polytechnic of Torino. The proposal should be a kind of temporary architecture, with a maximum duration of 10 years, where later they are easy to disassemble and move out of place, this is because the 5 zones taken for the project are rented. As architectural project proposal, the proposed container reuse as a support and modulator design and composition of buildings, where not only be used as a closed box and in some cases closure faces are extracted and used as supports for roofing or covered walkways. In addition a master plan that connects in a pedestrian way and across ciclovia 5 areas of intervention, together with 3 already existing buildings of importance in the zone which are: the library Archimede, the municipal building and the ecomuseoFreidano generating an external ring which reduces the traffic traffic in the central zone of the city. The campus is projected to have a facility for an estimated 320 students where only one-third will feature residences for weekly stay.
